Hardwood in structural engineering

For high performing timbers structures, engineers may use structural components made of hardwood. The international wood market offers various hardwood products but so far the quality, grades and standards are non-uniform, incomplete or even missing. The mini-symposium provides the possibility to discuss and to present recent research results as well as open questions. The focus is on structural application of hardwoods, available products (e.g. glulam, CLT or LVL made from ash, oak, birch, beech, etc.), quality control within production, grading of the raw material, design and successful implementation in structures. Contributions on material properties and structural behaviour of members, connections as well as structural systems are welcome as well as presentations of high performing timber constructions fully or partially made consisting of hardwood components.
