Welcome to WCTE 2016

The conference steering committee welcomes you to the 2016 World Conference on Timber Engineering (WCTE 2016) to be held on August 22-25 in Vienna, Austria.

WCTE is the world's premier forum for presenting and discussing the lastest technical and architectural developments and innovations in wood or timber construction. WCTE is the most prestigious international event in timber engineering, engineered wood products and design of timber structures, which is held biennially in different parts of the world and attracts researchers, engineers and architects, code consultants and building officials, contractors and project managers, fabricators and suppliers from all continents.

Organizer

WCTE 2016 is organized by Vienna University of Technology which was founded in 1815 and is one of the leading technical universities in Europe. The different scientific backgrounds of the involved Faculties of Architecture & Planning and Civil Engineering will generate great synergies in combining engineering and architecture. This will also be reflected in the conference programme, in which beside maintaining the traditional focus on timber engineering, great efforts will be placed in bridging the links between timber engineering, wood based industries, architecture, and the building sector in general.

Timber Engineering in Austria

Austria is a densely wooded country with nearly 50 % of its surface covered by wood and is one of Europe‘s most important supplier of wood products. As an Alpine country, Austria has a long tradition using wood for building structures. The woodworking industry is highly developed and is one of Austria‘s most important exporting branches. Austria is together with Germany the world‘s biggest Glulam producer and is leading the world production in Cross-Laminated Timber panels. Following this, wood-related research plays an eminent role in Austria‘s research landscape
