Travel to Vienna

Access by plane

73 international airlines offer scheduled services to Vienna. There are several daily flights between Vienna and Europe's main capitals and business centres. Austrian Airlines, the country's flag carrier, connects 174 destinations worldwide with Vienna and offers modern aircraft and excellent service. Vienna International Airport at Schwechat, 19 km (12 miles) from the city centre, is state-of-the-art in every respect.

 

From the airport to the city centre and vice versa

Bus: At 30-minute intervals, the Vienna Airport buses depart daily between 05:00 - 24:00. Costs: approx. EUR 7,00             Duration: approx. 20 - 35 min

Train: The suburban railway S7 leaves at 30 min intervals between 05:00 - 00:18. daily. Costs: approx. EUR 4,00             Duration: approx. 30 min

Car: Take Autobahn A4 from the airport to Vienna. The city centre is signposted.

CAT: The City Airport Train (CAT) runs at 30-minute intervals from 06:05 - 23:35 daily form the airport to train station 'Landstraße/Wien Mitte'. Costs: approx. EUR 9,00            Duration: approx. 16 min

Taxi: Taxis are available at the International Arrivals. Average fares to the centre of Vienna: EUR 35,00 - EUR 45,00

 

Access by Car/Coach

From 'Westbahnhof' train station:

U3 heading to 'Simmering', get off at 'Volkstheater', then change to U2 heading to 'Aspernstraße' and get off at 'Schottentor'

 

From 'Hauptbahnhof' train station:

U1 heading to 'Leopoldau', get off at 'Karlsplatz', then change to U2 heading to 'Aspernstraße' and get off at 'Schottentor'

 

From Vienna International Airport (Schwechat):

A Vienna Airport Lines/Postbus bus (line 1185) goes from Vienna International Airport straight to 'Morzinplatz', close to tram station 1 'Salztorbrücke' (duration of the journey approximately 38 minutes). Take the tram line 1 to heading to 'Stefan-Fadinger-Platz' and exit the tram at 'Schottentor'. The university is to your right.

Travel to the Hofburg

The Hofburg (Heldenplatz 1, A-1010 Vienna) can be reached by public transportation. Here are some possibilites for your safe trip to the Opening Ceremony at the Festive Hall, Hofburg.

from Airport Vienna (VIE) – up to 45 minutes

Take the train CAT (City Airport Train) to „Wien-Mitte“ and change to underground line U3 direction „Ottakring“, leave the U3 at „Herrengasse“ and take a 5 minutes walk

Take the airport bus VAL2 to „Morzinplatz“ and change to bus line 2A direction „Schwarzenbergplatz“ and exit at „Michaelerplatz“

 

from main train station „Hauptbahnhof“ – up to 18 minutes

Take the underground line U1 direction „Leopoldau“ to „Stephansplatz“, change to underground line U3 direction „Ottakring“ and exit at „Herrengasse“, take a 5 minutes walk to the venue

Enter the address „Heldenplatz 1, A-1010 Vienna“ to your navigation system. 

From North side drive to „Löwelstraße“ and stop when „In der Burg“ street crosses.

From south side drive along the „Burgring“ and turn right „Heldenplatz“

Please note that in front of Hofburg there is an „Standing and parking prohibitive zone“ and some limited parking zones for charge.
